Why We Do It
We do what we do because we believe God has called us to do it. We believe that when God called us to himself, he also called us to others. (We find verses like Romans 1:14-15, 12:1 helpful here.)
We also believe that when Jesus Christ made us his own, a fundamental change took place within us and in the way we relate to the world. We love the way St. Paul explained this in one of his letters to his church in Corinth (2 Corinthians 5:14-15): "For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised."
And, as Paul explains later in that passage (2 Corinthians 5:16-21), Christ gives a specific calling to each of his followers. We believe we are called by King Jesus to declare and demonstrate his reign and rule over all things. And though the way each member lives out that calling finds an expression unique to the person God has made them to be, the general execution of that call comes as we graciously speak words of hope and perform deeds of love and mercy in the places we work, play, and live.
We believe we can only do this in humble dependence upon God, who is real and active today. And we don't believe we can do this alone. That is why we are committed, connected, and accountable to the Presbyterian Church in America (our denomination, whose beliefs can be found here and whose confession of faith can be found here). And that is why we are members of the Acts 29 Network (our missional network).
